This woman needs one-time assistance for rent due to being unable to work for an extended period of time. She is 61 years old, and has been living in Sandpoint for a long time. While walking her dogs, she was hit by a car in October 2025, which physically debilitated her and made her unable to work. Not only that, she was left with the trauma of losing her dog to the accident. Due to her inability to work and recovery process, she lost her job, and since the injury was not on the job, she wasn’t eligible for compensation, and does not qualify for unemployment due to a physical inability to work. Now, she is currently dealing with the aftermath including insurance claims, PT appointments, and potentially surgery. When she first came in to the Community Resource EnVision Center, she had no income. They helped her get food stamps and Medicaid, and she was looking into alternative work with the Dept. of Labor, so things looked hopeful. However, while driving home on February 3rd, 2026, she got hit again by a truck, injuring her shoulder and resetting her physical progress. She meets with her orthopedic doctor today to determine whether or not she will require surgery. At this point, she is filing for SSI and disability, and will be eligible for social security benefits in June due to her age. In the meantime, she needs help maintaining her housing. She has also reached out to Navigation Services and to the local churches.
